‘Why wouldn’t you just hit it!’ Fans bemused by Morocco’s Abderrazak Hamdallah when his mazy run into the France penalty box isn’t finished with a shot as the African side are dumped out of the World Cup in semi-final defeat
Morocco’s Abderrazak Hamdallah left fans in frustration, as he failed to complete his mazy run into the France box with a shot on goal during Morocco’s semi-final defeat to the French.
With the African side trailing 1-0 thanks to Theo Hernandez’s fifth minute opener, the Moroccan forward weaved his way into the World Champions penalty area and looked as though he was about to equalise for Walid Regragui’s team.
However, the Al-Ittihad striker failed to take advantage of the opening, and his delay in getting a shot away saw the opportunity wasted.

However the Moroccan star fails to get his shot away much to the dismay of fans watching
Speaking on commentary Danny Murphy couldn’t believe that Hamdallah didn’t hit the ball and didn’t make more of the opportunity.
Murphy said: ‘Got to hit it! He did the hard work, made the space for the shot and then you’ve got to hit it! Took one touch too many. Twice he got on his left foot, but the first one was the opportunity, he found himself a yard but for some reason wanted to go again.’
Murphy’s plea was echoed by fans watching and the same sentiments were posted onto Twitter, questioning why the Moroccan failed to pull the trigger when he had the chance.
Two fans were so shocked by his hesitance they had to write their post in capitals, stating: ‘JUST HIT IT WHAT ARE YOU DOING BRO?!?!?’ and the other saying: ‘WHY WOULDN’T YOU JUST HIT IT’.
Fans pleaded for the striker to hit the ball while he had the chance but he failed to do so
The same theme continued through more posts with another fan complaining about his hesitance by saying: ‘Too much dilly-dallying, they just need to it it.’ While another admitted he’d voiced his own frustration at the chance: ‘That noise you just heard was me shouting HIT IT at my telly.’
Another poster complained that Hamdallah was more about scoring a perfect goal than hitting the net and went as far as calling him a clown.
‘This guy wants to score the most perfect and beautiful goal in #FIFAWorldCup semi final’. They said.
‘Who cares, please? Your team is chasing the game, just f**king hit it hard! It could be deflected and go in. That’s all that counts you clown!’
While more complaints suggested the striker had a brain freeze at the wrong moment, saying: ‘Morocco that’s how you find a goal! Just shoot!!!! Hamdallah’s mind was blank there.’
BBC journalist John Bennett compared the missed opportunity to him playing FIFA against his nephew
BBC journalist John Bennett even compared the chance to him playing FIFA with his nephew. Cheekily tweeting: ‘That Abderrazak Hamdallah chance is when I’m playing my nephew at FIFA for the first time in about a year and I forget which one the shoot button is.’
The missed chance proved costly as substitute Randal Muani doubled France’s lead with just over ten minutes ago, leaving a mountain to climb for Morocco.
France will now play Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup Final, while Morocco will have a shot at third place when they play Croatia on Saturday.
