Valencia vs Real Madrid Preview
Valencia and Real Madrid clash at Mestalla on Sunday with the hosts hoping to make a giant leap towards safety. They’re up against a wounded Real Madrid who were humbled in Manchester in midweek and it’ll be interesting to see how Los Blancos react to that defeat.
As for Los Che, it was the perfect weekend in many respects last time out. They won 2-1 at Celta Vigo while all of their relegation rivals lost and suddenly the outlook is a whole lot brighter for Valencia. Ruben Baraja and his team will be on the brink of safety with a victory here which would push them onto 40 points with 3 games to play.
The decisive goals for Valencia in recent weeks have come from the unlikeliest of sources and in dramatic fashion. 20 year old academy graduate Javi Guerra scored a brilliant winner in the 93rd minute against Real Valladolid and it was another youngster, this time 21 year old Alberto Mari, who headed home in the 88th minute to clinch the victory over Celta last time out. Those goals may very well prove the difference between relegation and survival for Valencia.
As for Real Madrid, they will be feeling a little bit bruised by the manner of their Champions League exit against Manchester City. While they were underdogs in the tie, losing 4-0 at the Etihad was a really disappointing ending to their title defence and coupled with a failure to win LaLiga, their season suddenly takes a much more disappointing overall complexion.
The heavy loss will raise questions again about the future of Carlo Ancelotti who was expecting to continue next season, although most likely not beyond that. A new project could be fast-tracked as a result with some big decisions to be made in the coming days. That may overshadow the end of Real Madrid’s league season with little to play for now and we could see further rotation from them here.

Score Prediction: Valencia 2-1 Real Madrid
This may be tough for Real Madrid’s players to pick themselves up after the defeat in England and go again against what will be a very motivated Valencia side in a noisy Mestalla. The hosts will carry a bit of belief into the game after an excellent win last weekend and they may just have too much energy and desire for a Real Madrid side that hasn’t been anywhere near their best in recent away games.
