Panicking Theo Hernandez tells Randal Kolo Muani to stay on the pitch while the rest of France’s team are off it wildly celebrating Kylian Mbappe’s goal – wrongly thinking it was the ONLY way to prevent a quick Argentinian restart
A clip of a panicking Theo Hernandez telling Randal Kolo Muani to stay on the pitch while the rest of France’s team were off it wildly celebrating Kylian Mbappe’s goal has gone viral – but the defender got the rule wrong.
After Mbappe’s superb strike made it 2-2 in the World Cup final and completed a remarkable turnaround, France were desperate to prevent Argentina from taking a quick kick-off.
Kolo Muani was running over to celebrate with his team-mates, but, after noticing the situation, Hernandez reacted quickly to shove him back onto the pitch.

Hernandez believed that the rule was that if France had one player on the pitch then Argentina wouldn’t be able to restart the game quickly.
However, the actual rule is that both teams need all of their players in their own half before the game can resume.
Despite Hernandez’s quick thinking, France ultimately weren’t able to get the better of Argentina.
The game finished 3-3, with Lionel Messi and Mbappe both scoring in extra time before Argentina won 4-2 on penalties.

Although he ended up on the losing side in the final, Kolo Muani certainly enhanced his reputation during the tournament with some encouraging performances.
Speaking on BBC Sport, Ferdinand said: ‘He hadn’t had a touch all game. Then two moments. He had the composure to dispatch the penalty.
‘Then the volley, the technique. He wants to be the man to decide games. The substitutions have impacted the game and were involved in the goals.’
