Fans on social media were sent into a frenzy after Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku missed three gilt-edged chances against Croatia.
The Inter Milan forward entered the fray at half-time as Belgium teetered on the brink of a group stage elimination. They needed a win over Croatia to stand a chance of progression into the round of 16.
And within minutes, he had two prime opportunities to break the deadlock but spurned both – leading to a mountain of criticism coming from fans on Twitter.

In the 59th minute, Roberto Martinez’s side broke into the Croatia penalty area in search of an opener. The ball fell to Lukaku – just a few yards from goal – but the 29-year-old could only find the post with his right-footed effort.
Two minutes later, a Kevin De Bruyne cross was floated onto the head of the Inter striker but he failed to hit the target and watched as his effort floated over the bar.
In the final moments of the match, Lukaku had a chance to atone for his mistakes when the ball fell to him inside the six-yard box but again he failed to convert.
They proved to be costly misses for the Red Devils, who were eliminated from the World Cup.
Users ripped into the substitute after the missed chances, with one fan writing: ‘Two howlers from Lukaku in two minutes’.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United striker has struggled to make an impact out in Qatar having dealt with thigh and hamstring issues in recent weeks.
He made a nine minute cameo in Belgium’s 2-0 defeat to Morocco as Roberto Martinez admitted he was being cautious over the striker’s fitness
‘Romelu was only ever going to be available for the third game (against Croatia) and we will carry on with that, but he is ahead of where he should be,’ Martinez told reporters on Saturday.
Lukaku had only played two club games since August due to thigh and hamstring issues, leading up to the tournament.
