Premier League clubs set to cash-in on World Cup stars, as Cody Gakpo becomes Man Utd’s top target

Qatar has provided a stage for underdogs and emerging young stars to captivate the world, with Azzedine Ounahi in particular catching the eye for Morocco. 

Sportsmail looks at 10 players Premier League clubs will be sniffing around in January.

AZZEDINE OUNAHI (Morocco, Angers)

Arguably the break-out performer of the World Cup. Ounahi, 22, wowed Spain coach Luis Enrique and his display against France prompted his club Angers to put a £40million price tag on his head. 

Leicester, Wolves and West Ham are among those interested but there are reservations, with his club bottom of the French league. 

The price will need to be knocked down and bids of around £20m are expected.

CODY GAKPO (Holland, PSV Eindhoven)

Has emerged as Manchester United’s prime target for January if they can agree a fee. PSV want a club record of over £40million. 

Leeds offered £26m plus £11m in add-ons in August which was dismissed and Southampton also tried but Gakpo, 23, wants a club challenging for a Champions League place.

SOFYAN AMRABAT (Morocco, Fiorentina)

France president Emmanuel Macron told Amrabat he was the best midfielder at the World Cup. Tottenham tried for him last summer but talks failed to progress with Fiorentina. 

They remain interested and the list is growing after a string of high class displays. 

Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid are among those eyeing developments.

YOUSSEF EN-NESYRI (Morocco, Sevilla)

He may not have finished with the flourish he wanted but En-Nesyri still made a big impression with his workmanlike performances and gravity-defying goal against Portugal. 

The 25-year-old is known for his consistency at Sevilla. 

West Ham have failed to hit the price for Sevilla in the past but are ready to try again for a man who can add a new dimension to their attack.

YOUSSOUFA MOUKOKO (Germany, B Dortmund)

His appearance for Germany, as their youngest ever player, was brief but Moukoko is still one of the brightest young forwards on the market. 

The 18-year-old is out of contract at Dortmund in the summer and they are reluctant to cash in now unless they receive ‘a silly offer’. 

Chelsea want him and have held talks but have now bid for Molde’s David Fofana. Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United are also keen.

JOAO FELIX (Portugal, A Madrid)

Atletico want to sell Felix, Matheus Cunha and Felipe to offset the financial loss caused by exiting the Champions League.

Felix, who cost them £113m, wants a top club and has been offered to Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. 

Aston Villa, Newcastle and Wolves have also been sounded out, but the cost may mean a loan with obligation is the best deal Atletico can expect next month.

JOSKO GVARDIOL (Croatia, RB Leipzig)

Bar his painful lesson from Lionel Messi, Gvardiol underlined his status as one of the best young centre backs on the world stage. 

Chelsea remain keen after failing with a £77million bid last summer while Manchester United, City, Tottenham and Real Madrid have him high on their list of defensive targets. 

Leipzig expect offers but hope to keep him to the summer.

JUDE BELLINGHAM (England, Borussia Dortmund)

The hottest English property is destined to return to these shores in the summer. Liverpool’s priority is to sign him and they have made a concerted effort to persuade him over recent months. 

They have even planned other additions that would not cut across his development. 

It is not a foregone conclusion, though, as Manchester City, Chelsea, United and Real Madrid have also made pitches.

NICOLAS JACKSON (Senegal, Villarreal)

Another who made a fleeting appearance for his country but the buzz around his progress has made him a target. 

The 21-year-old flyer is a player well known to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery after he oversaw him at Villarreal. 

Everton, Bournemouth and Newcastle have also expressed interest and his recent contract has a £27m buy-out clause.

ENZO FERNANDEZ (Argentina, Benfica)

The 21-year-old only joined Benfica last summer after clubs such as Manchester United and Wolves opted against signing him from River Plate. 

Has been pivotal for Argentina, earning high praise from Messi. 

Benfica insist his buyout clause of £105m must be met should he depart in the January transfer window, amid rumours that a deal has already been agreed with Liverpool.
