‘There’s no time to feel sorry for yourself’: Marcus Rashford reflects on England’s World Cup exit after scoring on Manchester United return against Burnley… as he says it was important to ‘pick himself up’ after Qatar
Marcus Rashford reflected on the disappointment of England‘s World Cup exit, after making his return for Manchester United.
The 25-year-old scored a brilliant solo goal to seal United’s passage into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, with a 2-0 victory over Burnley.
It was Rashford’s first game back for the Red Devils since England crashed out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals against France.

After his scoring return for Erik ten Hag’s side, Rashford said: ‘It’s massively important for us because when we last won it, it just pushed us.
‘We were chasing that feeling again, it does a whole lot for your confidence and the desire to keep winning. It will be massive for us to try and win that and all the players and staff are giving everything to do that.’
Rashford, like many England stars, had a one week break before returning to duty for their clubs.

He was perhaps a surprise inclusion given the thought that he might not be rushed back into action ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on December 27.
Rashford though said it was important to pick himself up and ‘not feel sorry for himself’ over England.
He said: ‘I had a little break, I think you need it more for the emotional side of things because it’s such a low being kicked out of any tournament.
‘You have to pick yourself up because there’s no time to feel sorry for yourself and come back with your head down.
‘If we lose the game today then we miss out on an opportunity to win a trophy so it’s massively important that you come back in and try to be as positive as you can be.
‘If you’re not quite doing that then the lads that haven’t been away, they have to lift you up and that’s what it’s been like since I’ve been in the last couple of days.’

Christian Eriksen scored the opener for United before Rashford sealed the win with his solo goal.
The forward, who scored three goals for England in Qatar, continued his impressive form by running from his own half and working his way through Burnley’s defence before slotting home.
United boss Ten Hag said: ‘There is room for improvement, we have to work on that, but I am pleased with the win.
‘The players are quite hungry. It was great to see a team goal, a really good goal.
‘Rashford was a constant threat. He is so dangerous when he dribbles with his pace and movement.
‘We have to be ready for the Premier League restart. We want to win every game.’
