However, Martinez took time to console and speak to his Manchester United team-mate following Argentina’s win.
Varane played the entire game as France drew 3-3 with Argentina in an epic encounter before losing on penalties.

Martinez, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Argentina, but still played his part during the tournament as he made five appearances.
As Varane and the rest of the French squad walked up to collect their runners-up medals, Martinez went up to his United colleague and embraced him before speaking to him briefly.

They are set to be back playing together soon but will return to England in different states of mind.
United’s next game is against Burnley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but it seems likely that Varane and Martinez could miss that fixture.
They could, however, be involved in the Premier League game at home to Nottingham Forest on December 27.
