Although the Dutch boss, after arriving from Ajax this summer, initially said Ronaldo was part of his plans, he dropped the 37-year-old veteran to the bench and oversaw his departure.

One said: ‘Ronaldo going to Saudi league only further strengthens Ten Hag’s stance on him throughout this season.’
Another added: ‘Perfectly reasonable a player of his age to finish his career in this way, but it’s absolutely incompatible with everything he’s said and done in the past. Ten Hag didn’t make a single wrong step in his treatment of Ronaldo, incredible management really.’

A third posted: ‘Cristiano has just basically admitted that Erik was right #Ronaldo #MUFC.’
One continued: ‘Feel bad for Ronaldo, a GOAT and United legend for me! But terminating his contract was really a power move by United and EtH #MUFC.’
Another tweeted: ‘ETH is owed some apologies from certain pundits. Ronaldo just because what he’s done before doesn’t mean he deserves to start and play. He’s lost it and those pundits need to get out of his a*** and admit ETH was correct, seeing his day to day work and games.’
And a sixth concluded: ‘Alot of pundits and rivals fans really owe ETH an apology regarding this Ronaldo situation. #MUFC.’
