The agent of Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat has suggested that he is happy at Fiorentina amid reports linking him with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Antonio Conte had his eye on Amrabat shortly after he took over at Spurs but they instead recruited Rodrigo Bentancur during the previous January transfer window.
Bentancur has proven to be an excellent signing for Tottenham but Amrabat’s recent form at the World Cup suggests that he would be a fantastic addition as well.
The centre-midfielder is likely to make it into the team of the tournament after how well he has performed for Morocco.
They have surpassed all expectations as they have become the first African side to ever qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Amrabat has been phenomenal as he has gotten the better of some of the best players in the world.
His work rate has been remarkable as he has marshalled the centre of the pitch. This has helped Morocco pull off shocks in Qatar to beat Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
They come up against 2018 World Cup winners France in the semi-finals on Wednesday night. The winner of this tie will face Argentina or Croatia in the final.
Amrabat may well secure himself a big post-World Cup move away from Fiorentina.
Tottenham are known to be keen, but Liverpool are now also said to be in the running to secure his services.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are in the market for one or two new centre-midfielders. They are also being linked with Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez.
Amrabat’s agent – Alberto Maria Jimmy Fontana – has now suggested that Amrabat could opt to stay at Fiorentina as he has an “excellent relationship” with the Serie A club.
“We talk often,” Fofana said about his relationship with Amrabat (via 90min). “I pass on the news that is going around in Italy.
“Fiorentina is enjoying his qualities now, given that last year he was a bit covered by Lucas Torreira [who has since moved onto Galatasaray].
“We have received many phone calls for him, but we respect the choices Fiorentina are making. They decided to bet on him and not to keep Torreira, even if they could have played together.
“The calls are nice, but we have an excellent relationship with Fiorentina, in addition to the long contract that binds him to the Viola. Despite playing in a lower European cup, they are a very respectable club.”
Regardless, Fiorentina are in a strong position. Amrabat is under contract until 2024 and they have the option to extend his deal by a further year.
It has recently been suggested that Amrabat could cost as much as £100m in the coming months.
