Liverpool host fellow Premier League side Wolves at Anfield on Saturday evening, with Gakpo likely to make his bow in the third-round tie.
The Holland star was not named in the matchday squad on Monday as Jurgen Klopp’s side were stunned in a 3-1 defeat against Brentford.
Gakpo will wear the No 18 shirt for the club, the same as compatriot Dirk Kuyt once did in his six seasons at the club, which saw him rack up 71 goals in 286 appearances in all competitions.

Sportsmail reported on Monday that Liverpool are weighing up a summer move for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is still their primary target but Nunes is under consideration as an alternative option given Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are vying over the England international’s signature.
Liverpool would also be open to signing a midfielder on loan this month if the right player becomes available.
