Former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is one of the names ‘under discussion’ to replace Jesse Marsch at Leeds United, according to a report.
Nuno is currently in charge of Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia having joined them last July.
His last spell in England was with Tottenham. He lasted 17 matches in the dugout before being sacked in November 2021.
The former goalkeeper’s best work was with Wolves, who he guided to the Premier League in 2018 after a 99-point campaign in the second tier.
Despite a torrid time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Nuno is being ‘discussed’ by the Leeds hierarchy with their managerial position needing to be filled.
This is according to The Athletic. A report states that the 49-year-old ‘would be keen’ to have another crack in the Premier League.
That is all she wrote about Nuno, though the report mentions plenty of other candidates.
Former Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan quickly emerged as the favourite to succeed Marsch, however, he recently penned a contract extension to end speculation over his future.
This resulted in Rayo Vallecano boss Andoni Iraola becoming Leeds director of football Victor Orta’s reported first choice.
Orta had discussed the role with Iraola in Madrid and the Spanish head coach was believed to be keen, but Vallecano stood firm and would not let him leave.
The Athletic believe that Iraola would have been appointed had negotiations gone to plan after being ‘high up’ on Orta’s list.
Iraola wanted to remain ‘respectful’ to Vallecano – whom he led to promotion last term and has sixth in La Liga at the time of writing.
There was a ‘belief’ that the former Athletic Bilbao player wanted to join Leeds, but he did not want to leave his current club on bad terms.
‘The feeling in Spain is that he wants to leave but not in a way that reflects poorly on him,’ the report states.
After it was clear the Spaniard would not be moving to West Yorkshire, the Whites turned their attention to Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.
Slot initially hinted that he could be open to joining Leeds, however, he recently said: “I will stay with Feyenoord. I can say that with this one.”
Another name mentioned is Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou. Leeds have not made an approach but ‘are not oblivious’ to his success north of the border.
