‘You slept in bro!’: LeBron James mocked for posting a ‘Let’s Go!’ tweet for the World Cup final in the 65th MINUTE of the epic game between France and Argentina – after previously refusing to predict a winner
LeBron James was mocked on social media during the World Cup final on Sunday, posting about the game beginning when it was 65 minutes old.
The Lakers star shared a video previewing the game and its two stars, Lionel Messi of Argentina and Kylian Mbappe of France. ‘Two of the greatest ever!! Let’s go!’ James tweeted… despite the game having only 25 minutes of regular time remaining.
It meant James got a few mischievous replies on Twitter, who laughed at the timing of his post.
LeBron James was mocked for his ‘Let’s go’ World Cup final tweet with the game an hour old
James repeatedly spoke of his excitement seeing Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in action
The Lakers star was mocked, though, for the timing of his tweet on social media on Sunday
One James follower responded to him saying: ‘does bro know that match has already started?’
A different follower said: ‘Did you justb wake up and watching this on 90 minute delay?’.
Another fan wrote ‘you slept in bro, it’s almost over’ – which at 65 minutes felt like the right call. But then Kylian Mbappe intervened.
With France losing 2-0, the striker stepped up and scored a penalty and 93 seconds later, fired in with a brilliant strike to turn the game upside down.
James was clearly watching by then, tweeting: ‘WOW!!!!!!!! MBAPPE’.
Messi had earlier given Argentina the lead from the penalty spot in the first half before Angel di Maria made it 2-0.
But after Mbappe hauled France level, Messi scored from close range to make it 3-2 in extra-time in one of the most gripping World Cup finals ever.
There was one final twist in extra-time – Mbappe scored another penalty in the 117th minute to clinch his hat-trick, the first in a World Cup final since 1966 when England legend Geoff Hurst scored three.
But it was Argentina who emerged victorious in the penalty shootout as Messi finally, at 35, became a World Cup winner.
Speaking to reporters after the Lakers’ 126-108 win over the Nuggets late Friday, James cracked a smile when asked for his pick on who would win.
‘I’m not gonna choose,’ he said. ‘I just wanna see a great match like the rest of the world.
‘It’s gonna be a great one and I look forward to seeing two of the greatest to ever play that sport go at it (Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi).’
