‘I’m not interested’: Karim Benzema SNUBS Les Bleus, heavily hinting that he will refuse any call-up to France squad for the World Cup final – despite talk Didier Deschamps could use striker to ease their virus crisis
- Karim Benzema has dismissed any claims that he may return to action for France
- Les Bleus could win their third World Cup if they beat Argentina in Sunday’s final
- And there has been much speculation of Benzema returning now free from injury
- But the French striker has snubbed Didier Deschamps’ side on his Instagram
Karim Benzema has extinguished any rumours that he could return to the French national side ahead of their crunch World Cup final match against Argentina on Sunday.
Sportsmail reported yesterday that the Real Madrid striker had become incensed with how Didier Deschamps had treated him, sending the 34-year-old home after he sustained a thigh injury during France’s first training session in Doha.
The French forward has now overcome that problem and many rumours have been circulating that he could be recalled to help Les Bleus become only the third team in history to win back-to-back World Cup titles.
Karim Benzema has admitted he has no interest in rejoining France for the World Cup final
But Benzema has shot down those claims, posting a very unimpressed selfie on Instagram with a caption that reads: ‘I’m not interested.’
France beat Morocco 2-0 on Wednesday evening to secure their second consecutive appearance in a World Cup final and now have the chance to claim their third World Cup title.
Rumours were circulating that Benzema could have made a heroic comeback from injury to help the virus stricken French team defeat Argentina.
Despite flying home from Qatar, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner is still registered as a member of Les Bleus squad and had been given the green light by Real Madrid to return to Qatar.
Benzema travelled to Qatar but left soon after with a injury that ruled him out of World CUp
Its being reported that Didier Deschamps had told the striker to leave the French camp
Since sustaining the soft-tissue injury, the centre-forward has made a swift recovery, featuring in Real Madrid’s 1-1 friendly against Leganes earlier this week, and there was a possibility that he could re-join his compatriots to feature against Argentina.
But the relationship between him and Deschamps seems to have deteriorated, after the manager forced him to leave the camp.
The French coach had seen the 2018 World Cup winner struggling with some discomfort in his thigh and said: ‘What a pity Karim that you have to leave.’
Emmanuel Macron had also invited Benzema among other players to attend the final
France will now come across a difficult opponent in Argentina, spearheaded by seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, but it is plain to see that Benzema will now not feature in the match.
While France have been struck down with injuries during the tournament, things have gotten worse for Les Bleus, after a virus infiltrated their camp and struck down several key players with illness.
Meanwhile, in a bizarre chain of events, Benzema could have also attended the final not as a player, but as a guest of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Macron had invited him along with Paul Pogba and other injured stars to watch the final from the terraces.
But it seems, considering his comments on Instagram, the Ballon d’Or winner may not want to accept the president’s invite.
