Juventud Torremolinos vs Sevilla Predictions & Match Preview

There’s an all Andalusian affair this Wednesday in the Copa del Rey as Sevilla head to the Costa del Sol to take on Juventud Torremolinos. There are some really important weeks ahead for Jorge Sampaoli’s struggling side and they could do with a convincing win and performance here.

This will be a truly historic occasion for Juventud de Torremolinos CF who have rarely even played in the Copa del Rey previously, let alone faced elite level opposition. They got a taste for it in the last round though, surprisingly defeating Segunda Division Huesca on penalties and the excitement has been building for some time ahead of this tie.

El Pozuelo is used to hosting fourth tier matches with Juventud Torremolinos currently rock bottom of their section of the Segunda Federacion following promotion last term. They have only won one league game all season and are directly below Sevilla’s reserve team in the current standings. A lack of goals has been their main issue with just 8 scored in 14 league outings but they did manage to score twice inside half an hour against Huesca in the last round, before converting all of their penalties in the shootout.

For Sampaoli and Sevilla, it’s really important that they set the tone for the second part of the season with a positive result and performance here. Sampaoli will have benefited from the break as he tries to get his ideas across, although a large number of Sevilla’s players were involved in the World Cup with three Sevilla players in the ultimately successful Argentina squad.

Gonzalo Montiel even scored the winning penalty in the Final and it’s safe to assume that neither he, nor Marcos Acuña or Papu Gomez will feature here. There have been some positives in recent friendlies that have included a 1-0 win over Benfica and Sevilla do have some more favourable league fixtures coming up which could help spark a revival in their season with Sampaoli’s side currently 18th in LaLiga.

Score Prediction: Juventud Torremolinos 0-3 Sevilla

The onus is on Sevilla here to make a bit of a statement as they look to find their feet after a woeful start to the season. Juventud Torremolinos should not provide them with the fiercest of tests given their current struggles in the fourth tier and it’s hard to look past a comfortable away win.
