The roster for the United States men’s national team’s October camp has been released and includes the return of one prominent name.
Gio Reyna, the Borussia Dortmund winger, will make his return to the team for the first time under Gregg Berhalter since the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It was at that World Cup where Berhalter’s decision to keep Reyna on the bench for most of the tournament resulted in chaos that culminated in the biggest scandal US Soccer has seen in at least this decade.
After months of investigations into the coaches’ actions in a domestic violence incident, as well as the conduct of Gio’s parents – Claudio and Danielle Reyna – US Soccer rehired Berhalter as its manager following a lengthy coaching search.
Now, Gio and Gregg are reunited ahead of the toughest matches the USMNT will face in the second Berhalter era: a match against Germany in Hartford, Connecticut and another against Ghana in Nashville.
