While the 2026 World Cup is highly anticipated, the logo revealed by FIFA for the tournament on Wednesday is already being slammed by fans.
At an unveiling in Los Angeles, soccer’s governing body revealed the official logo of the USA, Mexico and Canada-hosted competition.
And FIFA kept it simple, as the design features a 2 stacked on top of a 6 and the World Cup trophy superimposed on them.
Fans were quick to criticize the threadbare design for the tournament, which will kick off in a little more than three years.
‘Not a very impressive logo, especially from a designer’s perspective… it’s okay. Mediocre at best,’ one Twitter user said.
‘Would have been viewed better if all the other logos weren’t so iconic, both artistically and symbolically.

Another fan had an interesting theory.
‘Okay, I’ll say it. Someone forgot to have someone design a logo and they had some AI bot do this c**p,’ they said. ‘You can’t pull one over on us.’
While fans were quick to criticize the logo, it’s the first time the image of the trophy has been used in a logo for the World Cup.
Each of the 16 host cities will also have its own branding with unique colors and style, FIFA announced.
But fans weren’t exactly focused on the positives.
‘That’s it? A PNG file image of the trophy over 26. Anemic,’ another one said.
The logo was shown on top of differing background colors in a video from Fox Soccer, which is a broadcast partner of FIFA’s for the tournament
‘It’s very bland and rather lame,’ a different supporter concluded on Twitter. ‘The tournament is being hosted in all three North American nations and this logo does nothing to represent any of them.
The competition itself, which will feature 48 teams for the first time, will be the first World Cup in North America since 1994 and put soccer on a massive stage in the region.
‘[This tournament] will be beyond imagination,’ FIFA president Gianni Infantino said during the launch event.
The same cannot be said about its logo.
