Emiliano Martinez‘s last-minute wonder save to deny Randal Kolo Muani has proved decisive as Argentina went on to win the 2022 World Cup.
In a rollercoaster of a game, the France winger had a chance to score the winner and wrap up what could have been the greatest World Cup comeback of all-time.
However, the Aston Villa goalkeeper stayed big and made the vital save to take the tensest of finals to a penalty shootout.

Argentina believed they had the game wrapped up at 2-0 in normal time and again when Lionel Messi put them 3-2 ahead in extra time.
However, Kylian Mbappe made it 3-3 from the spot and, if it wasn’t for Martinez, Argentina would have been going home empty handed.
As extra-time was reaching it’s conclusion, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate pumped a hopeful ball forward and somehow the ball found it’s way through to Kolo Muani.
The Eintracht Frankfurt forward was presented with a glorious chance to write his name in the history books and struck the ball well towards the bottom corner.
Nobody in the stadium could watch as Martinez charged out and stuck out an outstretched leg to save his side from defeat.

Martinez is well-known for his ability to deny his opponents in shootouts and saved from Kingsley Coman to give his side the advantage.
Argentina did not let their lead in the shootout slip and scored every one of their spot-kicks with Nahuel Molina scoring the decider.
