Burgos vs Eibar Preview
Two Segunda Division promotion contenders face off this Thursday with an early kick-off on what is a bank holiday in Spain. Burgos can go top of the league with victory over Eibar and that would only further indicate how serious they are about challenging this season.
While their incredible run of consecutive clean sheets to start the season is over, Burgos still boast the best defensive record in the second tier with just 7 goals conceded in 18 games this term. While they average less than a goal scored per game themselves, they are just so tough to play against that few teams relish the trip to the Estadio El Plantío.
Burgos have only lost 1 of their 9 home games this term but they’ve been getting results on the road too. They come into this one following a 2-1 win away to Ponferradina and also recently produced a statement win away at current leaders Las Palmas. They’ve offered a bit more attacking spark in recent weeks too with left-back José Matos arguably their most creative force and he has chipped in with 4 assists already this term.
Eibar meanwhile haven’t found quite as much consistency. They’d gone 3 without a win heading into their last game but held onto their play-off place with a 2-1 home win over Huesca. Gaizka Garitano’s team don’t currently look like serious automatic promotion contenders but a positive result here would push them much closer to that particular battle.
Their away form really does need to improve if they are going to make a real push for the top two. They average just a point per game on their travels this term, winning 2 and losing 4 of their 9 away games. They are in the middle of quite a tricky series of fixtures though and can take confidence from having taken a point from their recent trip to Las Palmas.

Like so many Segunda Division matches, this should be tight with not a lot to separate the teams currently. Burgos never give their opponents many chances but they have slipped up in their last two outings at home, losing to Tenerife and drawing with Zaragoza. Eibar may have enough to get a result too.
