Barcelona vs Real Madrid Preview
The women’s Clasico takes place this Saturday in Liga F with Barcelona and Real Madrid resuming their rivalry. The Catalans were too strong for Las Blancas again in the reverse meeting, a 4-0 win at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in November.
The win was the highlight of another perfect league season as far as Barcelona are concerned. Their record stands at 22 wins from 22 games with 98 goals scored and only 5 conceded. It’s a formidable return which coupled with a 100% league campaign last season, gives Barcelona a psychological edge before they even step out onto the pitch, no matter who they are up against.
This is an important phase in their season though so Barcelona coach Jonatan Giráldez won’t want any let up. They won the 1st Leg of their UEFA Champions League Quarter Final against Roma in midweek with the return to come at Camp Nou this coming Wednesday. This match will take place at the Estadi Johan Cruyff with the home team keen to reassert their dominance over Real Madrid in women’s football once more.
Las Blancas are 2nd in Liga F but with a 10 point deficit to Barcelona, even a victory wouldn’t really change anything in terms of the title race. It would be a huge moment in the evolution of Real Madrid Femenino were they to get it, but in truth we’ve seen little in their recent displays that suggests an upset is on the cards here.
Real Madrid have only won 1 of their last 6 games by more than a single goal and drew the Madrid derby 0-0 against Atletico earlier this month. Evenso, this has certainly still been a season of progress for a side that lost 8 league games last term, ending in 3rd with a goal difference of only +10. That figure is +46 already this season with 8 games still to play and they’ve only dropped points in 4 of their 22 fixtures, although that has still been far too much in their battle to keep pace with Barcelona.
Score Prediction: Barcelona 3-0 Real Madrid
Real Madrid haven’t been scoring freely in recent matches and it’s tough to see them creating much against a Barcelona side that has only let in 5 Liga F goals all season. The Catalans will have one eye on the 2nd Leg of their Champions League tie but they are a professional outfit and should have little trouble recording another victory here.
