Barcelona vs Cadiz Preview
Barcelona are back at Camp Nou 72 hours on from a thrilling Europa League clash with Manchester United. This might not be quite as exciting with a stubborn Cadiz side likely to adopt a defensive gameplan in pursuit of an unlikely point.
Xavi is expected to rotate in some areas of the team following the 2-2 draw on Thursday which leaves things finely poised heading into next week’s 2nd Leg in Manchester. He’ll be forced into at least one change after Pedri hobbled off with an injury against United with the midfielder set to be out for around a month which is far from ideal at this key point in the season.
This game may come too soon for Sergio Busquests so Franck Kessie ought to get another runout in midfield alongside Gavi and Frenkie de Jong. There may also be starts for the likes of Eric Garcia, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres and Barcelona are going to need contributions from one or two fringe players in the coming weeks, although in truth they do have a bit of margin for error in LaLiga having built up an 8 point advantage on Real Madrid.
Cadiz will be hoping to take advantage if Barcelona do have a bit of an off day. They have lost all four of their away games against current top half sides this season though, conceding 13 goals in the process. This is a Cadiz squad that changed quite a bit in January however and there was a really positive display last time out from Sergio’s side as they beat Girona 2-0 at home to claim a deserved three points.
Two new signings were instrumental in that success with Gonzalo Escalante and Sergi Guardiola the goalscorers. Lazio loanee Escalante does feel like a really good addition that adds a bit of much needed quality to their midfield while there is more of a goal threat now to Cadiz with Guardiola and Roger Marti among their new attacking options.

Cadiz
INJURED | Garrido, Zaldua, Mari, Gil, Cala |
DOUBTFUL | Negredo, Chust |

Possible XI: Ledesma – Arzamendia, Fali, Luis Hernandez, Iza – Ocampo, Escalante, Alcaraz, Bongonda – Roger, Guardiola (4-4-2)

Score Prediction: Barcelona 1-0 Cadiz
1-0 is not a scoreline you would historically associate with Barcelona but it has been a recurring margin of victory this season with LaLiga’s best defence rarely breached. The absence of Pedri and likely rotation in attack will limit their creativity and goal threat here too so this may turn into another narrow win for the Catalans with Cadiz capable of at least digging in and competing for periods of this game.
