Atletico Madrid vs Almeria Preview
Atletico Madrid entertain Almeria this weekend in LaLiga with Diego Simeone’s side hoping to extend their impressive recent run of form. They will be firm favourites against an Almeria side that is yet to record an away win this term in the Spanish top flight.
The target now for Atleti is 2nd place which would have seemed almost impossible only a couple of months back. While it’s certainly true that Real Madrid’s inability to compete for the title and their cup distractions have opened a window, this does now offer Atleti a chance to turn a disappointing season into at the very least a respectable one.
They’ve won five in a row now in LaLiga and top the form table with 22 points from 8 games. The hope now will be that they can take this momentum and build into next season and make a real title push. They did something similar when they won LaLiga 2020/21 on the back of a return to form in the latter half of 2019/20 and there is a solidity to this current team again which had been lacking for much of this campaign.
Solid is not the word you’d use to describe Almeria. Only rock bottom Elche have conceded more times than them in LaLiga this season and they’ve shipped 2.23 goals per game on average away with 10 conceded in their last 3 road matches alone. Worryingly for Almeria fans, 6 of their final 10 fixtures are away and they are surely going to need to break their duck by winning a road game at some point if they want to stay in this league.
They did their survival chances no harm last time out though by beating Valencia 2-1 at the Power Horse Stadium. That was a real six pointer and widely seen as a “must win” game given their away problems and it does make this game something of a free hit from an Almeria perspective with any kind of result a huge bonus.

Score Prediction: Atletico Madrid 3-0 Almeria
Atletico Madrid are in a really good place right now and they should be too strong across the pitch for Almeria here. The visitors don’t have the kind of personnel or gameplan to frustrate Atleti in the way some bottom half teams can, and a comfortable home win looks likely.
