Arsenal have offered Jorginho a new contract and the veteran midfielder is expected to remain at the Emirates Stadium amid interest from Juventus.
The Italian’s contract in North London is set to expire at the end of the season but The Athletic have reported that the Gunners have offered the 32-year-old a new deal and he is expected to sign it.
Many felt the former Chelsea star would leave Arsenal ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and there was a lot of interest in Jorginho with the summer transfer window around the corner.
Sources told CaughtOffside this week that Juventus hoped to replace Adrien Rabiot with Jorginho as the French star is expected to leave the Serie A club this summer.
The Arsenal star had an interest in returning to Italy but it seems that he is enjoying his time in North London and wants to continue on the journey with Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Jorginho contract is a smart move by Arsenal
Offering Jorginho a new contract is a smart move from Arsenal as the Italy international has surprisingly been an important player for the Gunners this season. The 32-year-old’s inclusion in the starting 11 has allowed Declan Rice to be more effective further up the pitch and it has worked well for Arteta in many big games.
The former Chelsea star is also a low-cost option as Arsenal will not have to go out and replace the midfielder having not brought in a transfer fee for him.
What this means for the future of Thomas Partey is unknown as the Ghana star is out of contract in 2025 and this summer would be the ideal time to sell the 30-year-old. The midfielder has been injured for the majority of this season and it will be interesting to see if the Premier League club sell him ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
