Arsenal have reportedly ‘identified’ Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard as a potential signing this month as they look for alternatives to Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Welcome to silly season, folks.
The Gunners are in the market for a new winger after they failed to sign one during the summer.
Ahead of the winter transfer window, Shakhtar Donetsk star Mudryk has been identified as their preferred target.
The 22-year-old was available for around £25m in the summer when Brentford and Everton were interested in him.
But his valuation has rocketed to around £87m amid his great form for the Ukrainian side this season.
This comes following his supreme form in the Champions League group stages as he was involved in five goals in six appearances.
Mudryk has made it pretty clear that he intends to join Arsenal this month, but the Premier League club face competition from rivals Chelsea.
The Blues have already hijacked Arsenal once this month as they have beaten them and Man Utd to sign Joao Felix on loan.
Despite interest from Chelsea, recent reports have suggested that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to acquire Mudryk.
The Gunners have already had two bids rejected for the forward and they are hoping that a transfer can be finalised for a lower fee than £87m.
Despite most indications pointing to Arsenal putting all their eggs in one basket in their battle for Mudryk, Media Foot are reporting that Hazard is an alternative.
They state that the Gunners have ‘made contact’ with Real Madrid with the view to signing Hazard this month.
This comes after claims that their pursuit of Mudryk ‘seems complicated’ with the youngster ‘turning to Chelsea’.
Hazard is therefore being ‘considered as a plan b’. He is said to have an ‘amazing profile’ as he still has a ‘good rating in England’ despite his woes in La Liga.
The veteran is said to have interest from the MLS but Arsenal plan to ‘revive’ and they have ‘contacted Real Madrid to find out the terms of an arrival in January.’
It really is difficult to believe that Arsenal are interested in Hazard. Before he joined Real Madrid, he would have been viewed as a sensational addition but he has endured a torrid few years in Spain.
The 32-year-old has been limited to just 73 appearances for Real Madrid over the past four seasons due to several injuries and poor form.
Hazard has only played seven times this season and he also struggled to make an impact for Belgium at the World Cup.
He is out of contract next year and a move to the MLS in the summer feels more likely. A switch to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr is said to be another option for him.
