Alaves vs Levante Preview
Alaves and Levante clash in Vitoria in the Monday night game in LaLiga SmartBank. This is a meeting of two teams who dropped out of the top flight last term and are making strong cases to make an immediate return.
This feels like a particularly big match for the hosts who, for the first time this season, have just hit a rough patch. Having lost just 1 of their opening 17 games, Alaves come into this following back-to-back defeats in away games against Granada and Tenerife.
The manner of those losses came as a real surprise too with 3 goals conceded at Los Carmenes and 2 in Tenerife. Prior to that, Alaves had conceded just twice in 8 matches so there would have been plenty for Luis Garcia to reflect on heading into this match. A return to Mendizorrotza should help to restore a bit of confidence and focus though. Alaves are unbeaten in front of their own fans this term, winning 6 of their 9 home fixtures.
Levante meanwhile are also experiencing a slight downturn in their fortunes. They are still unbeaten in 10 league matches but it’s 4 draws from their last 6 which has slightly halted the momentum that was building for Javi Calleja’s side. The goals have dried up too with only 3 in their last 4 games, the most recent of which was a disappointing 0-0 home draw against Ponferradina.
They should have won that game in truth with 19 attempts on goal to Ponfe’s 3 but they were denied by 7 saves from visiting goalkeeper Amir Abedzadeh. There is still plenty to be positive about for Levante who have been much more impressive since a poor opening to the campaign under Mehdi Nafti and it’ll be interesting to see how many risks they are willing to take to chase a win here.
Score Prediction: Alaves 0-0 Levante
Things are so tight at the top of LaLiga SmartBank that we can expect many more cagy, close games between the promotion contenders between now and the end of the season. Neither Alaves nor Levante have beaten current top 6 opposition so far this term and with both experiencing a slight dip in form, a draw looks a very plausible outcome here.
